About | Talking Paintings
Q and A with Justin Richel

When did you start making Talking Paintings?
I made my first Talking Painting in 2001.
It was actually a screenprint, and it was spring loaded!
I started the business in 2004.

Who is the person on your logo? Is that you?
The very first Talking Painting was inspired by an image of my pop pop.
He is the face of Amazing Talking Paintings!

Do they really talk?
They certainly will. (*If you provide the voice.)

What size are these?
Each Talking Painting measures approximately 3" x 4" x 1/4" (plus the lever).
Just small enough to hold in the palm of your hand.

Do you make these any larger?
Nope.

Can I commission you to make a Talking Painting of my Dad?
On very rare occassions, I do accept commissions.
However, I only accept a few commissions, and only once or twice a year.
Sign up for my mailing list to find out when I offer Talking Painting commissions.
*If you are interested in a Fine Art commmission, please email me directly with your request.

Are these images of famous people? This one looks like Einstein!
No, these are just images of everyday, above average people.

Do you ever make images of famous people?
Sorry, no.

How do I display my Talking Painting?
I would suggest looking for a wooden hinged plate stand at your local craft store.
Typically, these fit well in a 4" plate stand.
In the future I may have these available. Unfortunatley, at this time I do not.

How do you make these, they're AMAZING!
Wow, thanks! As for how I make them... Well, that's a secret!
I will tell you that they are made with many layers of matboard, glue, gouache, and love.
Of course each painting is also coated with a protective varnish.

Are these made of wood? They look like wood!
That is great! They are meant to look like wood! It's called Faux Bois.
However, Talking Paintings are made with many layers of matboard.

Are these durable?
Each Talking Painting is made with great care, and each one is durable.
Although they are interactive and meant to be used, each one is a piece of art.
So, one should still handle their Talking Painting with care.
